American officials tried to assure Ukraine that it would sit down at the negotiating table with Russia on the issue of ending the war.
According to The Wall Street Journal (WSJ), this happened after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky warned that Ukraine would not agree to a peace agreement imposed on it from above.
According to diplomats present at a meeting of G7 foreign ministers on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio told his Ukrainian counterpart Andriy Sybiza that Washington had no intention of keeping Ukraine from negotiations and that it would be unwise to do so.
Negotiations with the Russian Federation
Before that, US President Donald Trump's special representative for Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, stated that there would be no European representatives at the negotiating table, while "it would be foolish to say" that Ukraine would not be involved in this process.
At the same time, Advisor to the Head of the Presidential Office Mykhailo Podolyak reported that Ukraine will not have negotiators representing it in Saudi Arabia, where negotiations with the participation of the US and Russia will take place.
According to Podoliak, Russia does not want negotiations. The aggressor country wants a formal negotiating table where it will get a few things.
