A Lend-Lease bill for Ukraine will be introduced in the US today, Republican Congressman Joe Wilson announced.
“Today I am introducing the Freedom First Lend-Lease Act to give President Trump the flexibility to send victory weapons to our partners, including Ukraine, to deter war criminal Putin, as Biden should have done long ago. Bring Russia to the negotiating table with American power,” he wrote on the social network X.
The congressman did not disclose other details.
Lend-Lease for Ukraine from the USA
As you know, a historic event took place on May 9, 2022 - US President Joe Biden signed a Lend-Lease for Ukraine. This was the first such step since World War II.
However, the program, on which many hopes were pinned, never worked. Washington supplied weapons to Kyiv under other programs. These are the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI), Foreign Military Financing (FMF), and the Replenishment of US weapons stocks (PDA – Presidential Drawdown).
In December 2024, Ukrainian Ambassador to the United States Oksana Markarova reported that the House of Representatives had passed the 2025 defense budget, but it did not include a provision to extend Lend-Lease for Ukraine. According to her, the provision to extend the Lend-Lease Act to protect democracy in Ukraine was in the bill, but it was not included in the consolidated text.
