Large-scale rallies were held across South Korea on Saturday, despite the cold weather. Some protesters demanded the immediate resignation of the country's ousted president, Yun Seok-yeol, while others opposed his removal from power.
As reported by Ukrinform, Yonhap reported this.
A group of protesters gathered in the Gwanghwamun district of central Seoul to demand the release of Yun Seok-yeol from detention, holding signs demanding the president's impeachment. Organizers estimated that 3 million people joined the rally, while police unofficially put the number at 35.
About 5000 people took to a separate rally near Gyeongbokgung subway station in the South Korean capital, demanding Yun's immediate removal and calling on the Constitutional Court to quickly rule on the president's impeachment.
Also, around 10 people took to the streets around Anguk subway station in Seoul.
It is noted that similar protests took place in the cities of Gwangju, approximately 270 kilometers from Seoul, and Daegu, 235 kilometers from the capital.
Gwangju was the first rally in support of Yun and calling for the lifting of the impeachment after his failed imposition of martial law in the country in December. At the same time, a mirror rally was held in the city, demanding Yun's immediate removal.
A large rally against Yun's impeachment was held in Daegu in the morning. Later, hundreds of members of civic and labor groups gathered in the city center to speak out in favor of the president's removal.
