Leaders of far-right parties from the Patriots for Europe group welcomed the return to power of US President Donald Trump at a summit in Madrid on Saturday. The event was held under the slogan "Make Europe Great Again."

The summit was attended by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, Italian Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini, leaders of the French National Rally (RN) Marine Le Pen and the Dutch PVV (Party for Freedom) Geert Wilders.

“The Trump tornado changed the world in just a few weeks. …Yesterday we were heretics, today we are mainstream,” Orban told about two thousand supporters, most of whom waved Spanish flags.

All speakers at the event opposed immigration, and most called for a new “Reconquista,” referring to the medieval reconquest by Christian kingdoms of parts of the Iberian Peninsula that had been controlled by Muslims.

The meeting was opened by former Estonian Finance Minister Martin Helme, who spoke after a video address by Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado. Helme's speech, in which the politician ridiculed so-called leftists, was interrupted by a Femen activist who chanted "Not a step back against fascism" in Spanish, after which she was kicked out of the summit.
