Thousands of Russian businessmen, doctors, and engineers have begun moving to China

Most of the people who go to China are residents of the capital regions of Moscow and St. Petersburg. However, a significant number of Russians also migrate from Siberia and the Far East.

Russian entrepreneurs, qualified specialists, engineers, doctors and teachers have increasingly moved to China for permanent residence in recent years. It is noted that most of the residents of the capital regions — Moscow and St. Petersburg — go to China. However, a significant number of Russians also migrate from Siberia and the Far East, in particular from the Trans-Baikal Territory, Buryatia, Irkutsk Oblast, Krasnoyarsk, Khabarovsk and Primorsky Krai. Researchers cite statistics according to which approximately 11 thousand Russians move to China annually.

In 2020, more than 16 Russians permanently resided in China, according to the country's census. However, according to experts, the actual number of Russians in China could be between 40 and 50.

Russians who permanently reside in China tend to gravitate towards large cities with large labor markets. For example, about 10 people live in Beijing, 5-6 in Shanghai, and 2-3 each in Harbin, Guangzhou, Urumqi, Hong Kong, and Macau.

In addition to entrepreneurs and highly qualified specialists, students and pensioners go to China to study. The latter often go for a "wintering" - for seasonal residence in China of varying duration. But sometimes this turns into permanent forms of migration. Pensioners go to China mainly from the regions of Siberia and the Far East.
