After the restyling, the Tesla Model Y is available in the US only in the starting version, the Launch Edition, which has two motors and a high level of equipment. This electric crossover now costs $ 59, which is significantly more expensive than the previous model. However, according to the company's vice president Lars Moravy, in the future the lineup will be expanded to include both more affordable and more powerful versions, as well as a model with an additional two seats.
The Launch Edition's engines produce 455 horsepower, allowing the car to accelerate to 96 mph (60 km/h) in 4,1 seconds. The single-engine version of the Model Y is said to have 410 horsepower and will be more affordable, with better range. At the same time, a version with a 299 horsepower engine is planned for the Chinese market, which will make it weaker.
Interestingly, the power of the new base versions of the Tesla Model Y in the US is already equal to that of the top-of-the-line Model Y Performance before the restyling. It is expected that after the update these figures will increase further, approaching 500 hp for some models.
Additionally, the new seven-seat version of the Tesla Model Y will get additional seats to accommodate children or short adults. This option will be a convenient alternative to the more expensive Tesla Model X, which, although it offers more space, comes at a higher price.
According to forecasts, expanding the lineup and including new options will make the Model Y more accessible to different categories of buyers, as well as increase the popularity of this electric crossover in the US market and other countries.
