Trump wants to launch nuclear disarmament talks with Russia and China

The US President, after a settlement in Ukraine and the Middle East, would like to resume negotiations on nuclear arms reduction with Russia and China.

This is reported by The Associated Press, Ukrinform reports.

Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office, Trump complained about the need to spend hundreds of billions of dollars on nuclear deterrence and said he hoped to get commitments from U.S. competitors to reduce their own military spending.

"We have no reason to create new nuclear weapons, we already have so many, we can destroy the world 50 times, 100 times. However, here we are creating new nuclear weapons, and they are building their nuclear weapons. We are all spending a lot of money that could be spent on other things, much more productive," said the head of the White House.

According to him, the US and Russia have huge stockpiles of nuclear weapons since the Cold War, and China will create the same arsenal in five to six years. And if these weapons are ever used, it will be the end of humanity. Therefore, the American leader would like to launch nuclear disarmament talks with Russia and China after the wars in Ukraine and the Gaza Strip are over.

"After I put out the fire, one of the first things I want to do is meet with President Xi of China and President Putin of Russia. And I want to say, 'Let's cut our military budget in half.' We can do it and I think we can," Trump said.

In this regard, the AP recalls that during his first presidency, he tried, but failed, to involve China in nuclear arms reduction negotiations, which were then being conducted by the United States and Russia.

As Ukrinform reported, French Armed Forces Minister Sebastian Lecornu said that Europe is concerned that the "peace through force" that Trump wants to impose may turn out to be weakness, so it is necessary to ensure truly sustainable peace and security on the continent after the end of the war in Ukraine.
