The order imposes financial and visa restrictions on court officials and their family members involved in investigations against US citizens and Washington allies.
US President Donald Trump has signed an executive order imposing sanctions on the International Criminal Court over its investigations into Americans and their allies. The restrictions include financial sanctions and visa restrictions on individuals involved in the investigations and their families. The order was published on the White House website.
The decision is reportedly in response to the ICC's investigation into US citizens and their allies, including Israel. The sanctions include restrictions on financial activities and visa access for individuals involved in investigations into Americans or their partners, as well as their family members.
The decree states that the International Criminal Court has illegally assumed jurisdiction over cases related to war crimes committed by the US military and its allies and has taken unfounded legal actions, including against Israeli leaders.
“The United States will impose tangible and significant consequences on those responsible for violations of the ICC, some of which may include blocking property and assets, as well as suspending entry into the United States of officials, employees, and agents of the ICC, as well as their immediate family members, because their entry into our country would harm the interests of the United States,” the order states.
This is the second time the US has imposed sanctions on the ICC. Previously, during Trump's first term, Washington imposed restrictions on the court's leadership over its investigation into possible war crimes by US forces in Afghanistan.
As a reminder, the International Criminal Court has issued an arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Galant.
Instead, members of the Israeli government accused the International Criminal Court in The Hague of anti-Semitism, which issued arrest warrants for the country's prime minister and former defense minister. As National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir said, the court "proved to be thoroughly anti-Semitic."
By the way, US President Donald Trump's national security adviser, Mike Waltz, promised a "strong response" to the International Criminal Court's decision.
