Wes Morrill, the Cybertruck’s lead engineer, shared photos of the pickup truck’s new hardware, including reinforced sills and underbody protection that he called “off-road armor.” Morrill also noted that these prototypes with the new protection have been undergoing testing over the past year. The updated Cybertruck was tested in Johnson Valley, California, known for its popular King of Hammers off-road race.
The published photos show the sills and part of the car's underbody being tested on rocky terrain. Wes Morrill emphasized that the new elements, although thin, are extremely strong, which allows them to provide reliable protection against damage on difficult routes. However, the exact launch date of the new option and its price have not yet been disclosed.
This new protection will likely be available as an option for the Cybertruck. Given management’s statements, improvements to the vehicle’s off-road capabilities are expected in the near future, allowing the vehicle to become even more efficient on challenging routes.
