A group of friends in Italy were shocked when their spontaneous nighttime prank with temporary tattoos turned into a real long-term commitment, one of the participants revealed in a TikTok video.

Modern technology has allowed temporary tattoos to last much longer than the usual 24 hours, but not everyone is aware of how durable they can be. A group of friends who decided to get semi-permanent tattoos for a joke during a December party were faced with an unpleasant surprise the next morning - the drawings would not wash off.

“Our faces when we realized that the “temporary” tattoos would stay with us until January 2025. We are in our 30s,” says one of the participants in the popular video.

The video, which has garnered over 7,4 million views, shows the friends choosing their favorite tattoos on Amazon, unaware of the consequences. Later, TikTok user onemicirci posted footage of their designs and where they were applied, drawing a backlash from viewers.

Some of the designs were particularly unfortunate: one girl got a tattoo of an animal's head right in the middle of her chest, while a guy chose barbed wire on his neck and a crescent moon on his face. Another girl was not thrilled with the image of a panda under her eye, and her friend was not thrilled with the inscription on her chest.

Among the most extreme solutions were an on/off button on one participant's cheek and tiny symbols on another participant's fingers. One friend had a gun tattooed on the back of his head, but even after repeated attempts to erase it with a scrub, the tattoo remained almost unchanged.

In the comments, users shared their own stories of similar tattoos. One said his 16-year-old daughter used similar stickers for Halloween and couldn't leave the house for days. Another noted that his girlfriend's tattoo was still intact even after four years.
