The administration of US President Donald Trump has informed European allies that it plans to achieve a ceasefire in Ukraine by Easter (April 20, 2025).

Some officials said the pace of talks, which begin this week in Saudi Arabia with the participation of senior US and Russian officials, look ambitious and perhaps unrealistic, Bloomberg writes, citing sources familiar with the negotiations.

“Achieving an agreement by the end of this year seems more likely,” said one of the sources.

Peace talks and European concern

US President Donald Trump shocked European leaders when US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said that Europe would be responsible for providing security guarantees and peacekeeping forces to ensure Ukraine's security. Trump himself, in turn, has already called the Kremlin dictator.
