The United States currently has no plans to reduce its military presence in Europe amid Russia's aggression against Ukraine, but will continue to reject the idea of sending American forces to Ukraine.
This was stated by US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth on Tuesday during a meeting with journalists in Stuttgart, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
When asked about a possible reduction in the US military presence in Europe, the head of the Pentagon replied: "There are currently no plans for reductions."
At the same time, he noted that there is an understanding in Washington of the need to "review the disposition of forces around the world," as President Trump's approaches differ from those of the previous administration.
When the new Pentagon chief was asked whether the new administration was considering changing Biden's approach to Ukraine in terms of military presence, Hegseth noted that the United States "is not sending troops to Ukraine."
Speaking about national threats, the Minister of Defense stated that the main task is to protect our own border. According to him, the focus of attention will now be shifted there.
"You won't have a country if you don't have (protected – ed.) borders, as the president said. And we've been protecting other people's borders for too long. It's time to protect our own," Hegset emphasized.
Regarding external threats, he emphasized that this primarily concerns the ambitions of communist China, as well as other challenges.
