The United States wants to participate in the post-war reconstruction of Ukraine, not limited to the development of Ukrainian deposits of valuable resources.
This was stated by US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessant in an interview with Fox Business, UNIAN reports.
“We are currently allies of the Ukrainians on issues of values. We support them on security issues and seek closer cooperation in the economic sphere. I believe that this will be mutually beneficial. When Americans have a stake in the restoration of the Ukrainian economy after this conflict is over, the United States will also benefit,” he said.
According to Bessent, the United States will become a “catalyst for Ukraine’s economic growth,” which should be facilitated by American capital and innovation. He emphasized that Ukraine’s neighbor, Poland, has been one of the world’s leaders in terms of economic growth rates for 30 years.
“So why can’t Ukraine repeat this success? And why shouldn’t Americans benefit from it — through scarce resources, energy, and state-owned enterprises? We can [help Ukrainians] implement best practices in privatization and modernization,” the US Treasury Secretary said.
He stressed that Ukraine has significant deposits of strategic minerals, but most of them are still processed in China. Therefore, this issue, he said, “needs to be resolved.”
“We will work on safe ways to recycle — either in the US or in Europe,” Bessent said.
