Sotheby's held its first auction in Saudi Arabia

A total of 118 lots were sold on Saturday night for a total of about $17 million. Before the auction began, the total sales of the lots were estimated to be in the range of $16 million to $22 million.

It is noted that the 1958 painting "The State of Waking" (L'État de veille) by Belgian artist René Magritte raised the largest sum - $1,2 million.

The same indicator was achieved by the work "Subject to Availability" by British artist Banksy.

A painting titled "Society Woman" by Colombian artist Fernando Botero fetched $1 million and was one of the top lots of the evening auction.

Sotheby's recently sold a minority stake in Abu Dhabi's sovereign wealth fund, in part to create a regional partner that would help the auction house focus on the Middle East market.
