"I don't want Putin to participate in the negotiations, I want him to get out of Ukraine."

Radosław Sikorski, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland, which holds the presidency of the EU, stated that premature negotiations between Ukraine and Russia may not bring the desired and fair result, Ukrinform reports.

“I have already expressed my skepticism about holding a premature summit. There are two approaches to negotiations with a difficult partner. The first is when you “test the waters” at a lower level – officials or deputy ministers, to see if there is room for agreement and whether a solution can be found for the “red lines” of both sides – then the leaders only approve such an agreement. The other approach is personal diplomacy, when you discuss the agreement at a meeting of the main actors. Both ways are legitimate, but we should only evaluate their results,” said the head of Polish diplomacy.

According to him, the issue of the European side's participation in the negotiation process falls within the competence of the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, as well as the President of the European Council. The Polish presidency of the EU plays only a supporting role in this. Ukraine's participation in everything that concerns Ukraine should remain the main principle of any peaceful settlement process.

“I don’t want Putin to participate in the negotiations, I want him to get out of Ukraine. He can do it in five minutes. If he doesn’t, he will face an international court. He has no business on the territory of another UN member state. But Putin’s convenience is not my concern. I am troubled by the nature of the Russian regime and Putin’s control over Russia. Under these conditions, Putin may prefer a bad war to a good peace. Because only by continuing the war will he feel significant. This is the nature of all dictatorial regimes that unleash wars,” Sikorsky added.
