Seat belts play an important role in protecting drivers and passengers, significantly reducing the risk of injury in accidents. The Kyiv Region Patrol Police reminds that neglecting this requirement can cost lives and also result in a fine.
Every day, law enforcement officers check whether drivers comply with traffic rules, especially regarding the use of seat belts and motorcycle helmets. Having detected violations, inspectors draw up resolutions under Part 5, Article 121 of the Code of Administrative Offenses, which provides for a fine of 510 hryvnias.
Police emphasize that seat belts are mandatory not only for the driver, but also for all passengers, regardless of where they sit in the car. Similarly, motorcycle helmets are a necessary means of protection for those who drive or ride motorcycles.
According to a study conducted by the Center for Democracy and Rule of Law (CEDEM) in collaboration with Vision Zero, more than half of Ukrainian drivers still do not use seat belts. This indicates the need for increased control and increased responsibility on the roads.
