While some summer residents spend money on various supplements, experienced gardeners only smile condescendingly.
Experienced summer residents know the secret that makes the soil fertile even without fertilizers.
The secret of fertile soil
Agronomists and experienced gardeners believe that the soil in the garden can be saturated with nutrients without fertilizers.
To do this, in their opinion, it is enough to sow a number of plants that enrich the soil with valuable components, in particular nitrogen.
What is special about such plants?
All legumes can be classified as “nitrogen-fixing.” Their specialty is that they consume nitrogen from the air.
This macronutrient is fixed in the roots, which later become a natural fertilizer for the soil.
When the plants reach a certain stage of development, they are mowed. The nitrogen remains in the soil and then goes to tomatoes, cucumbers, cabbage, and other crops that the summer resident decides to plant.
What to plant on the site
There are several plants that will enrich the soil with nitrogen. Mineral fertilizers will not be needed if you plant:
- clover;
- sown vetch;
- peas;
- lupine;
- alfalfa;
- and other legumes.
Some of these plants have a dual benefit. For example, clover, alfalfa, and vetch attract bees, which provide significant help to summer residents.
