The agreement between Ukraine and the United States on rare earth metals is a real breakthrough. It will explain to Americans why the United States should protect Ukraine.
This was stated by US Senator Lindsey Graham during his speech at the Munich Conference.
According to Graham, once the agreement is signed, it will become an argument for US President Donald Trump to protect Ukraine.
“Now President Trump can tell the Americans, ‘Ukraine is not a burden, it’s an asset.’ They are sitting on trillions of dollars worth of resources that we can all benefit from if we choose to cooperate with the West,” Graham said.
He said that in a conversation with Trump, he noted that Russian dictator Vladimir Putin may want to restore the USSR or even the Russian Empire. This indicates that Putin is “hunting” for money.
“Don’t let him steal Ukrainian resources for his own enrichment – that’s the same as defunding the police. So if this minerals deal goes through, it’s going to be a nightmare for Putin, because now we have something to protect. So you have to support this deal,” Graham said.
Agreement on “rare earths”
It recently became known that the United States and Ukraine are discussing a strategic partnership agreement. It was recently presented to the Ukrainian side by US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessant, who visited Ukraine this week.
According to media reports, this agreement includes US access to strategically important rare earth metals in Ukraine. However, it is known that Ukraine had to finalize the draft agreement.
