Rutte meets with the College of the European Commission to further strengthen NATO and EU capabilities

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte met today with members of the College of the European Commission at the invitation of European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. During the meeting, the parties discussed ways to further develop bilateral cooperation and strengthen both organizations.

“NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte today (January 31, 2025) participated in a meeting of the College of European Commissioners hosted by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen at La Grande Abbaye de La Ramée, Belgium… The discussion focused on strengthening defense readiness, increasing defense production, and aligning common strategic priorities for both organizations,” the report says.

During the meeting, Mark Rutte stressed that security threats are increasing around the world, which makes it even more important to strengthen the collective strength of both NATO and the EU to protect common values ​​and interests. The Alliance leader expressed optimism about continuing to build on the good foundation already established between the two organizations in bilateral cooperation.
