Colombian President Gustavo Petro has compared US President Donald Trump's deportation policy to the actions of Adolf Hitler. According to the Colombian leader, Trump's migration policy is in line with fascist ideology.
Gustavo Petro said in an interview with Univision that he considers US President Donald Trump a fascist.
“I heard Mr. Trump say in his speeches that ‘all immigrants are criminals.’ He criminalized a whole group of people, and that’s a fascist ideology,” Petro said.
In addition, he explained why he believes Trump's views coincide with fascism, comparing them to Nazi Germany.
“I could never say that every white American is an exploiter — that would be a huge mistake. Even worse, I could never say that they are all criminals just because they are white. What happened in Germany in 1933. They criminalized an entire religious group, and it led to the destruction of six million people,” Petro claims.
According to the Colombian president, there are constant deportation raids in the US, during which the police do not require documents and judge a person only by their appearance.
“If you don’t pass a quick racial test, you will be targeted. This is fascism. This comes from deep-rooted racism,” Petro stressed.
When asked by a journalist whether the Colombian leader really considered Trump a fascist, he answered affirmatively, “Yes,” and added that criminalizing entire population groups in order to gain the applause of the majority is exactly what Hitler did to Jews and socialists in 1933.
