Polish soldier commits suicide near Belarusian border
Operation Safe Podlasie was launched in response to the crisis on the Belarusian-Polish border caused by an artificial influx of migrants.
The Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces on Sunday, February 2, reported the suicide of one of the soldiers while performing tasks within the framework of Operation Secure Podlasie.
The circumstances of the tragic incident are being investigated. The investigation is being conducted by the military police under the supervision of the prosecutor's office.
The relatives of the deceased soldier are provided with psychological assistance.
Operation Safe Podlasie was launched in response to the overcrowding of the Belarusian-Polish border with migrants, which the Polish political and military leadership blamed on the Putin and Lukashenko regimes in Russia and Belarus, respectively. Over the past few years, thousands of migrants, mostly from the Middle East and Africa, have stormed the barriers on the borders with Poland, Lithuania, and Latvia. This has forced European Union countries to reinforce the border not only with physical barriers, but also with military units.
