Belgium's new government wins vote of confidence after debate that lasted over 40 hours

The lower house of the Belgian parliament approved a vote of confidence in the new government on the night of Friday, February 7, after more than 40 hours of debate in the legislature.

As Ukrinform reports, this was reported by VRT.

"It took a long time, including tonight. But it finally happened," said Parliament Speaker Peter De Rover at the end of the "marathon session."

The vote itself took place at around 02:30 local time. In total, the debate on the presented program of the new government lasted more than 40 hours.

The resolution on a vote of confidence in the new government led by Prime Minister Bart De Wever was approved by 81 out of 150 deputies, with another 66 voting "against".

There were no abstainers.

It is noted that all members of the coalition, which consists of five parties ("New Flemish Alliance" (N-VA), the socialist party "Vooruit", the Christian Democrat party "CD&V", the liberals "MR" and the centrist party "Les Engagés") voted in favor of approving the vote of confidence in the government.

Opposition representatives voted "against".
