Nissan is already looking for a new partner after talks with Honda collapsed. Taiwanese Foxconn, known for producing Apple smartphones and other gadgets, is being considered as a candidate. Cooperation with companies from the United States is also not ruled out, insiders say, without disclosing names.
Nissan and Honda broke off merger talks after Honda offered Nissan a subsidiary position. Now Nissan is looking for a new partner to help it get out of its predicament: in the fall, the companies predicted collapse in 12-14 months.
As for Foxconn, its interest in Nissan was reported in December last year. So far, it has taken a wait-and-see approach. If the deal goes through, Nissan will gain a strong investor, and Foxconn will have access to the Japanese company's expertise and factories. The Taiwanese concern will also get closer to producing its own electric cars, the concepts of which it showed back in 2022.
Nissan itself would like to see a large company from the USA, one of the key markets for the Japanese, as a partner.
In any case, Nissan's rejection of the merger with Honda has not yet been officially announced. The companies promised to disclose financial reports on February 13. They will probably announce the results of the negotiations then.
