Hospitals and businesses in the island nation of 22 million people are using generators and inverters due to the disaster.
Authorities have promised to restore power within a few hours, but hospitals and water treatment plants will be connected first.
The energy minister explained that the cause of the blackout was that the monkey "contacted our grid transformer, which caused an imbalance in the system."
