A very rare 1973 Monteverdi High Speed coupe is being sold at the Bring a Trailer auction in the US. This is one of the few car models that were produced in Switzerland. The rarity was announced on the auction website, Focus reports.
Monteverdi is perhaps the only well-known Swiss car manufacturer. In 1967, racing driver and designer Peter Monteverdi founded a small company near Basel and produced small series of luxury sports-touring cars. Their designs were developed by Italian body shops and under the hood were installed V8s from Chrysler.
The Monteverdi High Speed was produced from 1967 to 1976, with a total of 82 cars produced. The elegant, streamlined body was designed by the Fissore atelier.
The four-seater Monteverdi High Speed is trimmed with leather, wood and velour. The equipment includes power windows, power steering, air conditioning and a Pioneer audio system.
Specifically, this Monteverdi High Speed 375L is equipped with a huge 7,2-liter V8 with 375 hp and a 3-speed automatic transmission. The car is capable of accelerating to 100 km/h in 6,5 seconds and reaching a top speed of 245 km/h.
The Monteverdi High Speed 375L has 72 km on the clock. The sports coupe has recently undergone restoration.
