The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine is establishing secondary processing of waste rubber, primarily from military wheeled vehicles. It will be used to manufacture products for repair units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The press service of the Ministry of Defense reported this
"The Ministry of Defense is working to increase the efficiency of its units. The implementation of this project will allow reducing budget expenditures and ensuring the army's material needs," said Nikita Nikitenko, State Secretary of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
Currently, military units have over 6 tons of used tires from wheeled vehicles that need to be recycled in warehouses. The market cost of recycling services currently ranges from UAH 000 to UAH 200 per 400 tons.
"Accordingly, at the Ministry level, it was deemed advisable to build our own processing line. This will reduce costs and provide the repair units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine with our own products. For example, rubber mats. If military needs are fully met, we can consider manufacturing products for Ukrainian road enterprises and construction companies," said Colonel Oleg Koval, Head of the Department for the Alienation and Utilization of Surplus Military Property of the Ministry of Defense.
To create the line, appropriate domestic equipment has already been purchased, which is being installed on the territory of one of the military units directly subordinate to the Ministry of Defense. The line will allow processing 1 tons of secondary raw materials per year and producing finished products worth UAH 000 million per month. Taking into account savings in disposal costs, the annual economic effect of the line's operation will be up to UAH 1.2 million.
"The line is already 80% assembled. It is expected that the commissioning work will be completed in the near future and the line will reach its design capacity in March," said Oleg Koval.
He added that 3 tons of raw materials for processing have already been accumulated in the warehouses of military units subordinate to the Ministry of Defense.
