We have all heard and know a lot about rituals that are beneficial for health, and many try to follow at least some of them.

However, not everything that seems useful is actually so. What useful habits should you give up so as not to harm your health, told a family doctor

Eat porridge for breakfast

No, no, we are not talking about healthy buckwheat, oatmeal, rice, etc., but about their “analogs” – instant cereals that promise a ready breakfast in 5 minutes, just pour the mixture with water.

Such cereals do not give a positive effect, like ordinary cereals, that is, they will not provide a long-lasting feeling of satiety and a charge of vigor. Due to strong grinding, they are quickly digested (while ordinary cereals are “long-acting”), so the feeling of satiety passes quickly, rapidly changing into an attack of hunger. In addition, such products have a high glycemic index, and can provoke weight gain and even the development of diabetes.

Drink juices in the morning

Many people are used to starting their morning with a glass of fresh juice – it’s tasty, healthy, and full of vitamins. But doctors advise being more careful with this habit, because all juices contain a lot of acids. And by drinking a glass on an empty stomach, you put your stomach to a real test: the acid irritates its mucous membrane and this can lead to gastritis.

So juices are really healthy, but only if you drink them 20-30 minutes after breakfast.

Snack on cheese and fruit

Fresh fruits, berries and cheese are undoubtedly healthy products, but only if they are not mixed. The fact is that the combination of milk protein and carbohydrates complicates digestion - the former are processed by gastric juice, the latter by saliva, and both processes cannot occur simultaneously. Therefore, after a snack, where there are both fruits and cheese, flatulence may begin, heaviness in the stomach and even heartburn may appear.

Drink green tea

It is recommended to replace coffee with green tea (they say it is just as invigorating, but many times more useful), and in general, to drink as much of it as possible.

Follow a drinking regimen

The most standard advice for fluid intake is 2 liters or 8 glasses per day. This is supposed to help maintain weight, stay youthful, active, etc.

However, there is one BUT: everyone has their own daily fluid intake (depending on gender, age, weight, height, activity level, exercise, etc.). That is, the notorious “2 liters” may be excessive or insufficient for many. And deviation from the norm can result in headaches, dizziness, impaired kidney function, deterioration of the skin, etc.

Doctors recommend determining your fluid intake using special formulas. One of them states that for every 450 grams of body weight per day, you need 14 ml of water: your weight/450×14 = your water intake.

At the same time, it is also important to monitor your condition: if swelling appears, the amount of fluid should be reduced, if thirst, weakness, etc. appear, add more.
