Don’t sit in the cold, otherwise you will get a lot of “female diseases” – this phrase has probably been heard by every woman. Today, doctors confirm that it is harmful, but not only for women, but also for children and the elderly. Sitting in the cold threatens not only with gynecological diseases, but is harmful to the kidneys and bladder.
How does cold affect our health?
How much sitting on cold steps will harm your health depends on your immunity. Someone will sit without consequences, and someone will get kidney inflammation just by leaning against a granite wall. The fact is that under the influence of cold, blood vessels spasm, immunity drops, and bacteria begin to multiply actively. Women and girls are especially prone to this due to their specific anatomy.
“The female anatomy is such that the urethra is very short, so the infection can easily penetrate the bladder, especially when it is full. It can be activated when it is overcooled. Most often, this is an infection of the lower urinary tract – cystitis,” says the urologist. “And if you lie on granite stairs for a while in the cold season, you can actually get pyelonephritis – inflammation of the kidneys.”
Elderly people are at risk
It is also contraindicated for elderly people to sit on a cold bench:
“Due to age, elderly people have impaired blood flow and microcirculation in the bladder, they already have changes in the trophic (nutrition) of tissues,” says the urologist. “Resting on a cold bench can worsen the situation due to the development of infectious inflammatory processes.”
