European leaders warn Ukraine against ceasefire without peace deal

Achieving peace in Ukraine is possible only if Russian aggression is stopped and strong and reliable security guarantees are provided for Ukraine.

European leaders at a summit in the French capital on February 17 warned Kyiv about the danger of freezing hostilities on the front without concluding a peace agreement, Reuters reports.

"We are ready to provide security guarantees, modalities that will be discussed with each side, depending on the level of American support," the interlocutor told journalists.

In addition, a representative of the European Union, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that European countries agree with US President Donald Trump's "peace through strength" approach.

"We believe it is dangerous to conclude a ceasefire without a peace agreement at the same time," the European official added.
