The Hyundai Casper is a miniature crossover measuring just 3595 millimeters long and powered by three-cylinder gasoline engines. It debuted in 2021 and spawned an all-electric version last year, when the electric car was launched in Europe under a different name, the Inster.
Now, a new crossover version of the electric model has appeared in South Korea, which is just as charming, but with additional equipment.
Design
The Casper Electric Cross is tiny compared to another electric model called Cross unveiled earlier this week, the Volvo EX30 Cross Country.
The original styling of the standard version is largely retained, but combined with new silver skid plates and black side cladding to give it a tougher look. Hyundai has also designed a new set of 17-inch wheels and applied a pixel theme to the rear bumper.
Exterior changes also include standard full-LED headlights, a roof rack, exclusive matte green paint and updated graphics for the taillights.
Inside, Hyundai has opted for two-tone upholstery, matching the lower part of the seats with the green body. Like the regular Casper, which is also sold as a van in Korea, it has plenty of physical buttons to complement the large central screen.
Under the hood
The Casper Electric Cross comes with a 49 kWh battery, which is good for 285 kilometers on the local test cycle. It takes half an hour to recharge the battery from 10% to 80%.
It's worth noting that the regular Casper Electric with smaller 15-inch alloy wheels can travel 315 kilometers on a single charge. In Europe, the Inster has a maximum WLTP rating of 370 kilometers.
With a larger battery instead of the standard 42 kWh, the Casper Electric Cross also gets a more powerful electric motor. It produces 113 hp instead of 95 hp, while torque remains unchanged at 147 Newton meters. Performance is not mentioned, but the European Inster Long Range accelerates to 100 km/h in 10,6 seconds and reaches a top speed of 150 km/h.
The electric pseudo-crossover went on sale today in Korea for 31,9 million won, or about $22 at the current exchange rate.
