“The Secretary of State’s comments indicate that the US remains hostile to Pyongyang.”

North Korea has criticized U.S. Secretary of State Mark Rubio for calling North Korea a “rogue state,” saying his “rude and absurd remarks” will not serve U.S. interests, the first direct criticism from the Trump administration, NBC News reported.

“The hostile words and actions of the person responsible for US foreign policy have become an excuse to reaffirm the US’s hostile policy towards the DPRK, which remains unchanged,” a Foreign Ministry spokesman said in a statement carried by state media.

“Rubio’s crude and absurd statements only directly demonstrate the new US administration’s incorrect view of North Korea and will never help advance US interests as he wishes,” he added.

Rubio made the “rogue state” comment in a media interview, the North Korean statement said, without specifying which one. But it is likely that the reference was to Rubio’s interview with SiriusXM host Megyn Kelly on Thursday, in which he called North Korea and Iran “rogue states.”
