An examination of the aircraft fragments revealed numerous damages to the aircraft's tail, keel, stabilizer, elevators, and rudders.

A Kazakh government commission has presented a preliminary report on the Embraer 190 crash, which states that through-the-air damage to the aircraft indicates the penetration of external objects.

It is noted that an inspection of the aircraft fragments revealed numerous damages in the tail section of the aircraft, keel, stabilizer, elevators and rudders. Similar damages were found on the left engine, wing, hydraulic system and individual units. Some holes have a “characteristic rectangular shape”. According to the report, these damages caused a loss of hydraulic fluid/pressure and “inoperability of the first and second pitch trim channels”. What caused them is not specified.

As is known, when the plane was near Grozny (Chechnya) and was preparing to land, two knocks were heard with a difference of a few seconds. Then there was an audible alarm of autopilot shutdown. The pressure and fluid level in one of the hydraulic systems dropped to zero, and the cabin was depressurized.

The plane's GPS sensors stopped working over Grozny. The document states that controllers notified Nalchik and Vladikavkaz of the introduction of the Kilim plan a few minutes after the plane crossed from Grozny to Baku.
