Cardiologist Hanna Soloshchenko believes that it is especially important for some people to undergo an examination that helps determine their risk of atherosclerosis. Such a procedure is ultrasound of the vessels of the neck.
Atherosclerosis is a vascular disease in which cholesterol deposits begin to form and multiply on the inner walls of blood vessels. Such deposits lead to impaired blood supply to the heart and brain, which increases the likelihood of heart attacks and strokes.
According to the cardiologist, ultrasound of the vessels of the neck can determine the process of atherosclerosis in the body. Soloshchenko explained that most often it begins precisely in these vessels.
The doctor recommends the following categories to perform this study:
- people with deviations from the norm in lipidogram indicators;
- people who smoke or have smoked in the past;
- people with diabetes;
- overweight people;
- people whose relatives suffered heart attacks or strokes and died prematurely, especially at a young age.
The above-mentioned categories have an increased risk of developing atherosclerosis. Research in the form of ultrasound of the vessels of the neck will allow them to resort to the most effective methods of prevention, or to start timely treatment and adjust their lifestyle, the doctor emphasized.
