Aston Martin has unveiled the race car it will race in the Le Mans endurance race for the first time in over 60 years.

Based on the production Valkyrie hypercar, it was designed to meet Le Mans Hypercar (LMH) regulations. The car will be powered by a 12-cylinder engine. It will also be one of two naturally aspirated engines in the class, joining the V8 Cadillac V-Series R.

However, the Valkyrie's hybrid 6,5-liter Cosworth V12 has been reworked to better suit endurance racing. Its power output has been reduced from 1140 horsepower to 680 horsepower, and Aston Martin has also decided to provide a more even distribution of torque across the rev range.

Additionally, the air-fuel ratio in the fuel mixture has been reduced to improve efficiency and therefore require less fuel. A pneumatic jack system has been added to the chassis to speed up tire changes.

The car will compete in this year's FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) and the American IMSA Sportscar Championship. At Le Mans, the flagship car, number 007, will be driven by Britons Harry Tinkell and Tom Gamble. Danish driver Marco Sørensen and Spaniard Alex Riberas will drive the number 009 car.
