Ford Performance has revealed a new 7,3-liter supercharged V8 gasoline engine designed for racing and off-road tuning projects.
The Megazilla 2.0 engine is based on the massive Godzilla V8 naturally aspirated engine for heavy pickups and vans, but differs in completely different parts and a Whipple compressor. As a result, engineers managed to “squeeze” much more power and torque from the engine than the original (and it has 623 hp and 867 Nm), but the exact specifications have not yet been announced.
Ford estimates that the power will exceed 1014 horsepower, and the engine will be covered by a two-year or 24-mile (39-kilometer) warranty. Prices have not yet been announced, but the stock naturally aspirated engine costs $23, and the supercharger costs $10 separately. Thus, the new power unit is unlikely to be cheaper than $33.
The Megazilla 2.0 is expected to be popular with dragsters and off-road racing enthusiasts. But the unit is not suitable for public roads because it does not meet environmental standards. For regular tuning projects, Ford Performance has prepared a Coyote V8 5.0 with the same Whipple supercharger: output has increased to 800 hp and 834 Nm with a warranty and an environmental certificate.
