Patients with diabetes often hear various myths about their disease. Endocrinologists named the 5 most common of them.
Experts dispelled the myth that there are no differences between the first and second type of diabetes. They explained that if in one situation the human body mistakenly fights the cells that produce insulin, then in another it simply does not use this hormone properly. According to the second myth, all people with diabetes need regular insulin injections. In fact, they are needed by absolutely all patients with the 1st type, and only 30% with the 2nd type, since the latter is quite easy to regulate with the help of oral drugs.
The third myth suggests that with diabetes it is necessary to completely exclude foods containing carbohydrates from the diet. Endocrinologists claim that they can be used only in limited quantities. These substances are contained in all legumes, some cereals, potatoes and other foods. They help to slow down digestion, which helps to regulate the level of glucose in the blood.
Experts called the fourth myth that diabetes is caused by a large amount of used sugar. However, scientists have already conducted research, thanks to which it was possible to find out that this food product does not provoke the occurrence of endocrine diseases.
According to the fifth myth, diabetes is not a serious disease. However, doctors note: if you do not treat this disease, you can develop many other health problems.
