Blood clots, or thrombi, usually develop in the veins of the legs, but can also form in the arms. These blood clots become very dangerous when they reach the tissues of important organs, including the heart and brain.
Blood clots usually form on the skin when a cut, wound or scratch occurs - in these cases, the platelets in the blood clot to help stop the bleeding. But blood clots or blood clots can also form in veins in different parts of the body. In particular, they appear in the legs and arms.
A blood clot can be life-threatening if it is excessive in the bloodstream: it can move around the body and penetrate critical organs. If a thrombus settles in the veins of such an organ, it can obstruct blood flow, causing tissue death in this area (for example, this happens with pulmonary embolism). The appearance of a blood clot in the hand is especially dangerous due to its proximity to the lungs.
Experts urge to seek medical help in cases of blood clots. They named the symptoms that allow you to determine the presence of a blood clot:
- a reddish or bluish tint on the skin,
- cramp-like pain
- swelling in some parts of the arm or leg,
- skin that is significantly warmer than the rest of the body.
Experts added that some blood clots form in blood vessels near the skin, making them more visible, while others occur in deep veins and are much less obvious.
In addition, experts recommend including in the diet products that show anticoagulant properties and protect against the formation of blood clots. They included in the list of the most useful:
- turmeric,
- garlic,
- flax seeds,
- cayenne pepper
