The Republican considers Biden a “forgetful man” who is unable to properly protect national secrets.
US President Donald Trump has announced that he is depriving former White House Chief of Staff Joe Biden of access to classified information, revoking his access to daily intelligence briefings.
In a post on his Truth Social network, Trump said Biden set a precedent in 2021 by instructing the intelligence community to limit his access to national security details after he leaves office, which the Republican believes is unfair.
The president also cited last year's report by special counsel Robert Gore, which, while not accusing Biden of a crime, painted the Democrat as "a forgetful commander-in-chief who failed to adequately protect highly classified information."
“He himself set this precedent in 2021 when he ordered the intelligence community to bar the 45th President of the United States (ME!) from accessing national security data, a privilege traditionally granted to former heads of state.
The Gore report found that Biden suffers from a “poor memory” and could not have been trusted with sensitive information even in his prime. I will always protect our national security.
“JOE, YOU ARE FIRED!” Trump wrote, ending the post with his signature slogan: MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!
According to CNN, then-President Biden banned his predecessor from attending intelligence briefings traditionally held for former presidents, citing concerns about Trump's "erratic behavior" before the storming of the Capitol on January 6, 2021, claiming that he could not be trusted with classified information.
The publication notes that this step marked the first time that a former president has been excluded from intelligence briefings, which are held both out of courtesy and in situations where the current head of state is seeking advice.
“However, Trump went even further, saying he wanted to strip Biden of his security clearance.
The practical effect of Trump's statement about stripping Biden of his security clearance remains an open question. Former presidents do not have security clearance unless they had it in a previous position. As president, they have access to all the data. Once they leave office, they lose it.
At the same time, Trump could cut off Biden's access to daily intelligence briefings, as Biden did to Trump in 2021," CNN concluded.
