Most gardeners hold a conservative opinion about interfering with the natural process of plant development. They believe that the yield depends primarily on the timely application of fertilizers and irrigation.

Scientists conducted an experiment to determine whether potato flowers should be plucked. The plants were divided into 3 groups.

In the first, they did not cut off, in the second, the buds were plucked, and in the third, the entire top was cut off.

When the vegetables finished their growing season, the tubers began to be dug. It turned out that the first group formed fewer roots than the other two. But in terms of quality, they were better: large, even, without defects.

The harvest of the second group was much larger, but the quality was worse: tubers of different sizes, mostly small. The third part of potatoes showed the worst result: 25-30 small roots.

Thus, they came to the conclusion that the natural process of potato development should not be interfered with. After breaking off, the plant spends energy on recovery, so it is definitely not possible to completely cut off the upper part of the shoots.
