A power struggle within Russia remains possible and changes could occur suddenly and violently.

This opinion was expressed in an interview with The Sun by Jan Brzezinski, former deputy assistant secretary of defense for European and NATO policy. He recalled that everyone saw what happened a year and a half ago, when the mercenaries of the Wagner PMC rebelled and went to Moscow. “But Putin has a very strong hold on Russia,” Brzezinski stated.

At the same time, he expressed the opinion that if an authoritarian regime, no matter how strong it may seem, can still be crushed, then it turns out to be very fragile and breaks quickly.

“There is a tipping point, and when it comes, it usually happens very quickly and very violently,” the politician explained.

Brzezinski also spoke about US President Donald Trump's position on the war in Ukraine, noting changes since his re-election. The politician noted that Trump had previously expressed the opinion that ending the war in Ukraine was a matter for European leaders, not the United States. His rhetoric at the time alarmed European allies, who feared that the US withdrawal would leave Ukraine in a dangerous situation.

But since returning to the White House, Trump appears to have taken a tougher stance against Moscow. “He calls Russia an adversary. He said he’s not going to abandon Ukraine,” Brzezinski noted.

Also, as Brzezinski said, Trump warned Russia that if it does not stop this war and sit down at the negotiating table, he will impose high tariffs.

The politician shared that he is alarmed by Trump's shifting stance on Ukraine. "I'm still a little concerned, but I'm watching this with a certain amount of hope," he said.
