Petr Pavel reported on the results of the Czech initiative on the procurement of ammunition
The Czech initiative has been in operation for a year: Prague attracts funding from NATO allies, and then, through diplomatic channels, purchases ammunition from countries that do not want to openly support Ukraine.
The Czech initiative to purchase artillery shells in third countries has already allowed the transfer of 1,6 million ammunition to Ukraine, Czech President Petr Pavel said. Reuters reported this on Saturday, February 15.
According to him, enough funds have been raised to ensure the supply of shells at least until April 2025.
The Czech initiative has been in operation for a year: Prague attracts funding from NATO allies, and then, through diplomatic channels, purchases ammunition from countries that do not want to openly support Ukraine.
“We cannot afford to let off the gas pedal,” Pavel said in a comment to Czech television, urging partners to continue funding the initiative during the Munich Security Conference.
A Reuters source in the country's government said that the half-million figure only referred to 155mm (NATO standard) ammunition, while the rest of the supplies were other types of shells with a caliber of more than 100mm.
