Keir Starmer to announce 'triple strike' on February 24
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer will "challenge" US President Donald Trump, sources say.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer will announce a new aid package for Ukraine and new sanctions against Russia, The Telegraph newspaper reported the day before, citing sources.
It is claimed that this is a “triple strike” of measures, including military aid and sanctions. The official information will be released on February 24, the third anniversary of Russia’s full-scale attack on Ukraine.
“This is in sharp contrast to Trump’s approach, who in recent days has called Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky a “dictator” and has insisted on a quick end to the conflict,” the article says.
The newspaper notes that in this way Starmer will "challenge Trump with new aid for Ukraine" and recalls that the US president accused London of "doing nothing" to end the Russian-Ukrainian war.
Overall, the British government is developing a package of measures involving three different departments. The British Ministry of Defense is expected to release new details of military assistance to Ukraine. The content of the package has not yet been fully approved.
In turn, the British Foreign Office will announce a large set of sanctions against Russia. And the British Home Office will step up the fight against Russian "dirty money." Oligarchs who support Putin may be targeted.
“Whitehall called the package of measures a ‘full triple whammy’ designed to underscore Britain’s support for Kyiv,” the newspaper writes.
