Sweet melancholy also touched fashion - TikTok users actively shared videos on the topic of fashion trends for 2025, and as a result, the trends of the late 2000s and early 2010s were in everyone's feed, namely the boho-rock-chic aesthetic.
As the name suggests, boho-rock-chic is influenced by music, setting this fashion aesthetic apart from the more well-known boho style. The visual influence for boho style comes from rock musicians like Courtney Love and Taylor Momsen, who were popular in the 2010s. Momsen, in particular, brought the boho-rock-chic aesthetic to the set of Gossip Girl, where she played the role of Ginny Humphrey.
Bulky shirts with ruffles, leather jackets, miniskirts, belts, high boots with fringes and studs, as well as oversized bags that can hold everything and more. The boho-rock-chic style may seem sloppy at first, but every look in this aesthetic is thought out to the smallest detail. The main idea is to dress as if you were going to a rock concert.
Be careful not to confuse boho-rock-chic with indie rock. The latter was popular during almost the same period, and its fashion aesthetic is intentionally messy. Another big difference between boho-rock-chic and indie rock is the prints and palette: indie rock uses much more shades and prints, especially animalistic ones, combined with each other. Whereas boho-rock-chic uses dark colors, with black dominating, and prints are rarely used. Even indie rock makeup has a deliberately smudged look, while boho-rock-chic values clear lines, noticeable in dark lips and smokey eyes.
On the catwalk, the boho-rock-chic aesthetic was featured in some of Valentino and Chloé’s latest collections. In the former, the accessories were eye-catching, including lace tights and gloves and hats adorned with stones. Chloé, on the other hand, presented black suits and dresses with ruffles, paired with fringed jackets. Similar jackets were also seen at the Louis Vuitton Resort 2025 show in Spain.
However, the catwalk leader among boho-rock-chic looks was Isabel Marant, who introduced all of the above elements in her last two collections. It is no coincidence that the brand's iconic fringed boots, popular 15 years ago, have once again become a desired element of clothing among young fashionistas.
Today, this trend is being followed by fashionistas on social media and famous beauties like Suki Waterhouse and Victoria De Angelis.
