According to the biologist, "the driving force of the shaking process is the lack of positive stress experienced by the body." One of the most revealing examples of positive stress, the biologist calls playing sports. During training, the body may feel discomfort, but the result surpasses it many times over - a person improves health, avoids obesity, and gains youth.
At the same time, there are simpler ways to slow down aging than sports, which require time and money, the Harvard researcher notes.
Method 1: Consume fewer calories. Not too long fasting is another example of positive stress, which promotes the processes of cell renewal and some rejuvenation. Recently, for this purpose, intermittent fasting is increasingly recommended, when food is taken only for a limited number of hours a day.
Dr. Sinclair believes that "the easiest way to achieve longevity without needing to fast is simply to eat fewer calories overall."
In his opinion, a vegetarian diet is the best way to stick to a low-calorie diet. The hearty vegetables themselves contain fewer calories than steaks.
Method 2; eat bright fruits. Another idea of the biologist: organic products that have been subjected to stress help to prevent aging - vegetables and fruits with a bright skin.
"The bright color of the fruits is an indicator that they produced "xenohormesis molecules" that allowed them to persist and ripen in the face of environmental hazards. These substances activate our sirtuins, which give the body an additional boost for longevity," the scientist explains.
Method 3: exposure to cold. Dr. Sinclair states: to increase life expectancy and protect against early aging of the body, it is useful to experience severe frosts. Under the influence of severe cold, the body activates the production of brown fat, which is extremely useful for maintaining good health and slimness.
"Brown fat causes the body to burn white fat more intensively to produce energy and secrete proteins that are important for prolonging life. One minute of extremely low temperature can be enough to cause such a reaction," the expert suggested.
