BMW drivers are traditionally considered among the most aggressive on the road, but a new study has shown that in the US, the leadership in violations belongs to completely different brands. Analysts from LendingTree conducted a study in which they studied statistics on accidents, speeding tickets and drunk driving. The results were unexpected.

According to the results of an analysis of the QuoteWizard insurance database, in 2024 the most problematic drivers were Tesla, RAM, and Subaru owners.

Top 3 brands with the highest number of violations (per 1000 drivers):

  • Tesla – 36,9 violations (up from last year);
  • RAM – 33,9 violations;
  • Subaru – 32,8 violations.

Previously, BMW drivers topped similar ratings, but this time they lost even to Volkswagen and Audi.

Analysts attribute this to driver behavior. Tesla owners often rely too much on autopilot, while RAM owners tend to be more aggressive, especially in rural areas.

The highest number of cases of drunk driving were recorded among drivers:

  • Pontiac (despite the fact that the brand has not produced cars since 2010);
  • BMW;
  • Tesla.

Interestingly, BMW has maintained its reputation as a brand with a high level of alcohol-related violations, even though the brand is no longer a leader in other categories.

The study found that Tesla, RAM, and Subaru owners are the most problematic drivers in 2024, while BMW no longer holds the top spot in terms of total violations. The main causes of accidents remain overconfidence in autopilot, aggressive driving, and speeding.
