The war cannot be ended until Russian dictator Putin realizes that he cannot win. He must be convinced that his goals are unattainable, so he must stop before he loses more. This is the only basis for a peace agreement.
This statement was made by US Army General (retired), former commander of NATO's Joint Forces in Europe (1997-2000) Wesley Clark in an interview with Sospilny. "It's not a question of you offering both sides some formula and them saying: we like it," the general noted.
According to Clark, it is still difficult to determine what the peace formula will look like, and although the US special representative for Ukraine and Russia, Keith Kellogg, has formulated a vision, it is unacceptable to both sides. “But that is how negotiations are going. They will be shaped by the strengths of both parties,” Clark explained.
The general gave an example from history. He said that President Eisenhower, at the beginning of his term, said: “I have a secret plan to end the Korean War.” Clark said that Eisenhower sent a cannon capable of firing nuclear shells to South Korea. This coincided with the death of Stalin and the readiness of Mao Zedong to meet him. “History ended with an armistice that continues to this day,” Clark stated.
In this regard, he noted that the United States needed decisive action to change the balance of power at that time. “I hope both the European allies and Trump understand that this may be necessary in Ukraine as well,” the general said.
