Cucumbers with tomatoes, pasta with meat, and fruit after the main meal are considered harmful to the body – but they are perceived as such in vain.
Some food combinations are called harmful because they were declared so in the past. But the knowledge accumulated to date allows us to assert that sometimes products are declared incompatible or dangerous to the body when consumed alone for no reason.
Let's consider 5 such combinations.
Water and food. A theory of unknown authorship says that drinking water (especially cold water) during meals leads to food stagnation in the stomach or intestines - supposedly the liquid dilutes stomach acid - which slows down digestion,
These fears are unfounded! In the journal Health and Human, scientists explained that cold water, when it enters the body, quickly heats up to body temperature, and does not interfere with, but rather helps the digestive system, acting in tandem with the acid that ensures the digestion of food.
Cucumbers and tomatoes. It is claimed that the two vegetables require different times for digestion, and their combination can cause nausea, bloating, and flatulence.
In fact, this problem only occurs in people who are hypersensitive to either of the two products. In the absence of problems with the gastrointestinal tract, combining vegetables in a salad will not harm - especially if its dressing contains vinegar.
Navy-style pasta. The combination of proteins and carbohydrates is called harmful because of the difference in their absorption by the body.
In reality, most people without health problems cope well with this duo. Experts state that our bodies have evolved to adapt well to eating a variety of proteins, carbohydrates, and fats.
Fruit with main meal. The harm of such a combination is associated with fermentation in the stomach.
But it's useless to think like that. Fruits can't stay in the body long enough to end up fermenting. Besides, the stomach has too acidic an environment for such a process.
Milk with products containing acid. This is probably harmful, as the milk immediately spoils and curdles.
What is it really? It curdles in any case, getting into the stomach. Cold milk can withstand the combination with citrus fruits - the clotting process occurs so slowly that a person does not even notice it.
