- The first indicator is yellow feathers. If more than 50 percent of the vegetables in the garden have turned yellow, it means it's time to harvest the onions.
- The second sign is a thin and dried-out bulb neck.
- Another point to pay attention to is that the husk of a ripe bulb begins to peel, protruding slightly from the ground.
There is no need to cut the onion feathers immediately after harvesting. The crop should be left on the bed for a few hours to dry, but only if there is no rain at that time. In the evening, the vegetables can be taken under a canopy and left like that for a couple of weeks.
During this time, the bulb will be more saturated with nutrients, which means that you can already cut the feathers. But it is advisable to leave 10 cm of green mass. After that, you can proceed to preparing vegetables for storage.
