Blue has officially taken third place among the most popular car colours in the UK, becoming the first non-monochrome colour to enter the top three in 15 years.
According to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), around 15% of all new cars registered in 2024 were blue, representing around 300 vehicles. Blue has always been one of the country's favourite colours, but it last made the top three in 000, Nnews reports.
For the seventh year in a row, gray holds the top spot, with about 28% of new cars released in this shade. Black is in second place again, with 22% of buyers choosing it. White, which was third in 2023, lost ground to blue this year, as its popularity fell by 7% to 15%.
Despite the fact that electric cars have become more popular in 2024, the color palette of British cars remains monochrome: almost 65% of all registered cars are gray, black or white.
Car valuation expert Craig Bridgeman notes that non-standard colors, such as bright yellow or pink, negatively affect the resale value and speed of a car's sale.
Although green is still a rarity, its popularity in the UK is growing and has reached its highest level in 20 years, accounting for 3,5% of new registrations.
