At the wedding ceremony, the woman thought the celebration was fake, but after a while her husband stunned her with the truth.
In Australia, a woman discovered that a fake wedding she had attended for social media promotion was real. She found out when her husband tried to use the marriage to obtain permanent residency, tells Air Force

According to journalists, the man and woman met on an online dating platform in September 2023. They both lived in Melbourne and began seeing each other regularly.
In December of that year, the man proposed and she accepted. After a while, they were supposed to attend a party, but it turned out to be a “social media wedding giveaway” to promote content and monetize the Instagram page.
The woman believed the explanation, and together with her partner they went through the wedding ceremony and exchanged vows. According to the bride, she was happy to “play along” to “make it look real.”
Two months later, her partner asked her to add him as a dependant on her application for permanent residence in Australia, as they were both foreigners. She replied that she could not do so because they were not formally a family. The man then admitted that their wedding ceremony in Sydney was real.
The woman later found their marriage certificate, which she had not signed. The court later noted that the signature on the document bore little resemblance to her handwriting.
In court, the man argued that they had both agreed to it. He said the woman had agreed to the marriage. However, the judge ruled that the woman was “misled about the nature of the ceremony” and “did not give real consent to her participation” in the marriage.
“She believed she was playing. She called the event a ‘raffle.’ It was perfectly reasonable for her to assume the role of bride in the contested ceremony,” he said in the divorce decree.
